Dear Friends,
We are a small group of people who are in the process of developing a co-op home in downtown Kamloops.
Here is our project description:
We are a small group of people who are in the process of developing a co-op home in downtown Kamloops.
Here is our project description:
The project group will include 6 co-owners (singles and/or couples).
The home we envision would include 6 private spaces: private spaces would include a large bedroom, bathroom, large closet, and small sitting area (approximately 400 sq. ft.).
There would be a large common space, shared by all co-owners, which would include kitchen, living room, pantry, laundry, storage, small bathroom, exercise room, and a shared guest room/additional reading/media room.
Our planning indicates a total minimum area of 4000 sq. ft. and a maximum area of 4500 sq. ft.
We have decided to finance the project directly with our own investments, rather than seek financing/mortgages. We are all owners and have sufficient equity to invest- some of the co-owners would need to sell their homes to invest in the project- others could begin with some bridge financing/LOC.
Our estimate is an approximately $1.2 million total investment for home and property or $200,000 investment from each owner/family.
We are investigating both bare-land for a new construction project or finding an existing property with house that we would either demolish or would renovate/add on.
Perhaps being one of our "Rare Birds" will interest you? However, if this is not a fit for you please feel free to pass this on to others whom you think might be intrigued by our project.
Currently we are 5 investors, 2 couples and 3 singles,
Currently we are 5 investors, 2 couples and 3 singles,
ranging in age from 46 to 72. We have been meeting for several months and are developing
a co-operative framework/structure to enable us to purchase property and build/renovate a home for our collective needs.
The name we have chosen is RareBirds Housing Co-operative (pending approval and final registry completion).
We are looking for another "rare bird" (either single or couple, male or female) to join our community.
Our purpose is three-fold:
1. To create more financial freedom and emotional enrichment for each
of us by living interdependently, mindful of environmental
responsibilities and sustainable practices in our community living.
2. To create an inclusive environment that embraces our extended
families and welcomes our friends.
3. To create sustainable practices that embody our values.
